What to do on Lake Iseo, divided between the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia, here are five itineraries and activities not to be missed beyond the visit of the lake, read the post and plan your holiday.
Il Lake Iseo, smaller than the other famous lakes of northern Italy and certainly less crowded with tourists, it presents itself as the ideal destination for nature and walking lovers and for anyone wishing to spend a few relaxing days in a place yet to be discovered. Despite the absence of large urban centers nearby, the territory of Sebino (the ancient name of the lake), divided between the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia, is rather lively and full of attractions for tourists, especially during the summer season. In the small villages that are reflected in the waters of the lake it is common to find craft markets, festivals and stalls with food products. Sports lovers can instead try their hand at various water sports, such as sailing or windsurfing, while village festivals are the perfect place to experience local cuisine at ridiculously low prices.
If you have chosen this lake as your next destination, here are 5 things to do absolutely.
1. A walk in Monte Isola
Perhaps not everyone knows it, but in the center of Lake Iseo it stands Monte Isola, the lake island largest in all of Europe, with a perimeter of 9 km. The absence of cars on the island makes it the ideal place for a peaceful stroll. You can choose to stay on the coast and make a complete tour of the island, or to venture to the top of its mountain and visit the sanctuary of the Madonna della Ceriola, which houses frescoes from the XNUMXth century. Here the effort of the climb will be amply rewarded by the spectacular view of the lake that will present itself to your eyes. The island is accessible by ferry and it is also possible to take mini cruises on the lake before arriving there.
2. Take a bath
During the summer the shores of the lake revive and are populated by Milanese and indigenous tourists in search of relaxation. The freshness and tranquility of the water offer quick relief from the summer heat and allow you to enjoy pleasant swims. On both sides of the lake there is no shortage of equipped areas, such as Lido Nettuno, located in the municipality of Sarnico, a park with free admission with bar, picnic area and toilets. If you prefer a less chaotic place, try to stop in some meadow between Predore e Tavernola or Sarnico, where you can discover landscapes with a wilder character.
3. Visit Lovere, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy
If you love i small villages, full of narrow streets and picturesque views, you cannot miss Lovere, a medieval village nestled between the lake and the mountains. Here you can stroll along the lakefront or climb the internal streets and visit the church of San Giorgio, one of the oldest religious buildings in the area. If you are an art lover take a trip toTadini Academy of Fine Arts, where you can see, among other things, some works by Antonio Canova.
4. Immerse yourself in nature in the Torbiere del Sebino
On the southern shore of the lake, in the province of Brescia, there is a vast natural reserve dominated by reeds and ponds, considered an unmissable destination for bird watchers. Here you will discover different types of fish, mammals, birds and aquatic plants and you can go on an interesting itinerario tour lasting 2-3 hours that will allow you to visit the beautiful monastery of S. Pietro in Lamosa.
5. Observe unusual landscapes at the Pyramids of Zone
In the municipality of Zone, not directly overlooking the lake, but not far from it, you can admire some singular ones rock pyramids, shaped by the erosive forces of water. The pyramids can be observed along a free tourist itinerary arranged in a ring around them and are particularly suggestive in the autumn season, when the surrounding vegetation takes on warmer tones that clash with the cold gray of the stone.
