With the return (perhaps) of the summer I like to tell you about Grosseto Maremma, which is a beautiful area to spend the summer holidays.
Do you know it? Perhaps above all for the sea, with some places of attraction that are very famous (Follonica, Punta Ala, Castiglione della Pescaia, Marina di Grosseto), or for some villages of Etruscan origin, perhaps close to archaeological areas. In any case it is an area that I love very much and that I frequent for the sea, but its rural soul fascinates me above all. Yes, because it is enough to move away from the coast for a few hundred meters and the landscape is typically agricultural, with fields planted with sunflowers, tomatoes, courgettes, melons and watermelons. The territory of the Province of Grosseto is the largest in all of Tuscany and the least populated, a sunny and generous land. Torn from the swamp, as the Nature Reserve remembers Diaccia Botrona, in the hinterland of Castiglione della Pescaia. The entrance to the Reserve is the Red House, or Ximenes, which rises above the stretch of water of a marsh that joins the marine waters. The house has a system of locks that were supposed to regulate the flow of water. Visits are open from June to August: every day, except Mondays, from 16.00pm to 22.00pm.
To eat, I suggest you reach Macchiascandona, on the Bruna river, in the middle of the countryside before Vetulonia (Etruscan site), among parades of cypresses and maritime pines. Here on a roundabout there is a hotel restaurant lonely that is called Macchiascandona. You can eat there i Maremma tortelli best in the area. The tortelli vary in different areas of Tuscany, in these parts they make them square, with thin dough and stuffed with spinach and creamy ricotta. For 12 euros you will need 5 of such size that you will not be able to eat anything else, I guarantee you, but what goodness!
