I have been to Marciana one afternoon and I visited the Pisan fortress. Surely the place is nice, characteristic and its fortress is a gem to see ... for a few minutes, however, because it is really all there. Although the place is very nice, a fortress substantially in the middle of a mountain, I found the request for exaggerated 2€ to take a ride on the fortress.
What then "a tour" in the fortress means simply arrive on the walkway higher and see the view. In the fortress there is obviously a guardian, I guess salaried, there are entrance times and signs that indicate the way to the Fortress. Going out there is a splendid one natural balcony that overlooks the whole of Elba with a sea view ... and here you don't even pay 2 €, highly recommend this solution.
